How to Disable Creation of Thumbs.db

Posted on 05:10 by Unknown
Thumbs.dbIn Windows Explorer when the user chooses to view a folder in filmstrip or Thumbnail mode, a Thumbs.db file is created in the folder. This is the file that stores all the thumbnails that are generated in the folder; this implies that the next time the user opens the same folder, Windows does not have to again generate the thumbnails. However, users have to disable the creation of Thumbs.db as the file gets copied and uploaded everywhere and claims disk space over time. For disabling, you might seek the help of a technician. For computer repair in Miami, there are many such service providers.

Step 1: Open Control Panel and go to “Folder Options”.

Step 2: The user has to choose the “View” tab and then check the box that is labeled “Do not cache thumbnails”.

Step 3: Now the user must click on “OK” for saving the settings.

There is another method for disabling the creation of Thumbs.db

Step 1: Go to Start menu and click on Run.

Step 2: When the Run dialog opens, the user has to type “cmd” and then hit the Enter key.

Step 3: In the command prompt window that appears, the user must type “REG ADD"HKCR\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced" /v DisableThumbnailCache /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f”.

Step 4: Now the user must hit Enter for disabling creation of Thumbs.db file successfully.

In case there are problems, contact an online technical support provider for assistance.
