Steps to Hiding Unread Emails on Windows XP Logon Screen

Posted on 04:30 by Unknown
If you are a Windows XP user, you will find that after the operating system boots up to the Logon Screen or the Welcome Screen to log on to the desktop, the user may be notified of unread email messages. The message comes up on the Logon Welcome page saying that the user has a particular number of unread mail messages replete with the email address of your account. Such a notification also appears when your system is locked and you insert the password for accessing the Windows desktop. The message is visible for users who use email clients recognized by Windows, such as Windows Live Mail, Mozilla Thunderbird, Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express. If you find the notifications annoying and want to hide them, you can do it yourself or may contact a Windows XP support service for assistance.

• Step 1: Go to Start menu and click Run. In the Run dialog type “regedit” and then hit Enter.

• Step 2: Now navigate to the “HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ UnreadMail” key.

• Step 3: Identify the value “MessageExpiryDays” in the right pane. In case, you cannot locate the value, you may create named “MessageExpiryDays”. Now double click on the value and change it to “0”.

This should serve your purpose. If you are still facing problems, you may immediately seek the services of computer repair Brooklyn.
